33,000 OFW college-level children to receive P30,000 assistance

In a televised briefing from Malacañang, Duterte said the grant is for college-level children of displaced, non-returning, repatriated, or deceased OFWs affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The government will give a one-time grant of P30,000 as educational assistance to college students who are children of overseas Filipino workers, President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday.

Duterte said the subsidy will be given to a qualified beneficiary “enrolled or is intending to enroll” in a state or local university or college as well as other private higher education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

“Ang tulong po sa edukasyon sa mga anak niyo nito is a one-time grant of P30,000. The project will be allotted with the amount of P1 billion which will benefit about 33,000 students from OFW families,” he said.

The Chief Executive added that OFWs may get further details on the assistance from the CHED, the Department of Labor and Employment, or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

The educational assistance will be implemented by the Commission on Higher Education through the Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Act (UniFAST) with the help of the Department of Labor and Employment.
