COVID-19 vaccination plan for the month of June

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has developed a National Campaign for Immunization against Covid19- to cover all the targeted groups of the population for vaccination who are 12 years and above, which represents 70% of the population and that will be implemented in several phases according to the supply of vaccines.

Based on the agreements of vaccine procurement and the current supplies, it is expected to receive one and a quarter million doses this June at a rate of 200,000 doses per week. In this regard, Bader bin Saif Al-Rawahi, Director of Communicable Diseases Control clarified that MOH has adopted an implementation plan for vaccination during June where a number of groups will be vaccinated as follows:

  1. General diploma students and supervisory body for the general diploma examinations, which already started on May 25, 2021.
  2. Health workers in the private health institutions who didn’t take the vaccine, as well as the service providers, military and security personnel, which will be vaccinated next week.
  3. As for the other community members, the target groups will include adults (45 years and above) during the third week of June.
  4. Starting giving the second dose of the vaccine for those who took the first dose 10 weeks before.
  5. Staff and students of the Ministry of Education, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation during July.
  6. Another target group will be vaccinated during the next month.
  7. In order to access further groups and to facilitate the services for them, the Covid19- vaccination plan will be implemented by opening vaccination centers across the governorates and forming mobile teams if necessary.

Al-Rawahi added that the vaccination campaign for -12grade students and the supervisory body has been started on May 26, 2021, and 32000 of them have been vaccinated during five days, which represents 43% till today.

Despite the community response for the vaccination campaign, the coverage rate in the governorates is varying due to the concerns of some elder people and parents.

As for vaccine safety, the Ministry confirmed that the selection process of the vaccines in the Sultanate is based on scientific bases after being licensed by the organizational bodies adopted in the country of origin and other international organizations.

MOH calls all target groups of the general diploma students to take the vaccine, as it will be a prerequisite to enter the colleges and universities abroad the Sultanate.
