Its the year 2018 and as an Overseas Filipino Worker, we are excited about the new validity of our passport which is now 10 years as compared to the previous years which is 5 years only.
We have posted last August 2017 about the good news – President Rody Duterte signs law extending validity of Philippine Passports to 10 years and since then the excitement enveloped each OFW.
This move will certainly give comfort to all OFWs. Often, they have to file a leave from work for them to be able to travel back and forth to the nearest Philippine embassy or consular office to get their passports renewed.
Under the Republic Act 10928, it states that the regular passports “issued under this Act shall be valid for a period of 10 years” from the current five years under RA 8239 provides, “Regular passports issued under this Act shall be valid for a period of five (5) years.”
It clarifies however, that individuals under 18 years old shall be issued passports valid for only five years.
Anyway, the best thing about this news is paying the same renewal or application fee.
One of our kababayan here in Oman have just renewed and confirmed that the validity of her passport will be 10 years
Kababayan in the Middle east, kindly tip us also about your experience when you renew your passport.
