LTO to Launch Online Driver’s License Renewal for OFWs This Year

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to roll out an online platform for driver’s license renewal specifically for OFWs and other Filipinos living abroad. This is a significant step towards making government services more accessible and convenient for Filipinos overseas.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the full online renewal of driver’s license is intended to ease the burden of the OFWs in transacting with the LTO as they previously wait for a long time before their licensed becomes valid again.

“We hope to fully implement this within this year. Once fully implemented, this is indeed a big help to all our clients, especially OFWs, because they do not have to go to our offices or wait for their return to the Philippines to renew their driver’s license,” said Assec Mendoza.

“Tayo ay nagpapasalamat sa suporta ng ating DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista upang maisakatuparan ang proyektong ito na siya namang bilin ng ating mahal na Pangulo to bring the government services closer to the people,” he added.

For this project, Assec Mendoza said they are continuously working with the Department of Migrant Workers under the leadership of Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.

And for a start, Assec Mendoza said the LTO will have a launching of the online renewal of driver’s license in Taiwan in September this year.

He explained that this digitalization efforts will be showcased for Filipinos in Taiwan during a big celebration in the area wherein the LTO was invited.

“Hindi lang ito sa Taiwan, buong mundo na po ito at malaking tulong ito para sa ating mga kababayan because the driver’s license we issue is recognized worldwide,” said Assec Mendoza.

Aside from Taiwan, Assec Mendoza said they are now working with the DMW to expand the reach of the program in the Middle East, Europe, the United States and other countries with huge Filipino population.
