Some parts of the Muscat governorate will be closed as a precautionary measure to protect citizens and residents from COVID-19, the ROP and Military officials said.

Citizens and residents are requested to stay home and cooperate with the authorities concerned until the measures are over.

Motorists and correspondents on the ground have told the Observer that they are stuck on the road for hours due to sudden road restrictions on movement in some parts of the Muscat.

Officials said there are five checkpoints in and around Ruwi area to limit the movement of people.

Citizens and residents who ventured out were stopped by the officials at different places and were asked to return to their places of residence.

“I was stopped at Hamriya roundabout on my way to the hospital where my mother is admitted. The officials asked for documents to prove my claim. As I did not have any proof I had to return home”, said Sudeer, an expatriate.

Movement of both vehicles and people was stopped at different entry points in Ruwi,  Hamriya, Darsait, Wadi Kabeer, Muttrah, Al Bustan, etc.
