This news draws a lot of attention and comments in social media, those who lived and worked in the country said this was a good move, because customers would now know exactly how much they would be paying. Some netizens express dismay because they might be paying more once the meter is implemented.

At the moment, we have four ride hailing apps in Oman – Marhaba, Mwasalat, Careem and there is this OTaxi where in as per my personal experience is the cheapest and the most convenient ride hailing app so far.

OTaxi was officially launched in 2014 and is Oman’s fast growing On-demand taxi Hailing organizations, which integrates city transportation for users and driver-partners onto a mobile platform guaranteeing easiest, straightforward, and snappy service satisfaction. OTaxi is centered on utilizing the best of technological innovation and building inventive solution ground-up that are applicable worldwide.

Fares start from 190 baisa/km for the first 30 km and onwards of 100 baisa for every kilometre. Minimum fare is RO 1.5.

Check out my personal journey and how much it costs.

First you need to choose your pick-up and drop-off locations to get your estimated fare.

After you set your pickup location, you will know your driver’s location and estimated time of arrival with real-time tracking. Name of the driver, photo of the driver, car model and plate number is also displayed – familiar with Grab?

At the end of your journey, you will be presented with the amount to be paid, so my journey which is from Azaiba to Panorama Mall cost 1.5 OMR only  which is cheap compared to those taxi who will simply offer you a ride with the price of 2.5 and above.

You can check out detailed instruction on how it works from this link: http://otaxi.om/#howIt
