OFW Diary: “Pasalubong & Libre Ka Naman”

It’s been 4 years nung umalis ako ng bansang pilipinas and embraced my destiny as an Overseas Filipino Worker.

I experienced the hardships na sinasabi nila. Living on your own. It’s one of the scariest moments in my life but I embraced it. I was brave enough na harapin lahat ng mga pagsubok na mag isa malayo sa pamilya ko at mga kaibigan.

Every year, we were given the privilege to go home and rest. We call it annual leave. And so we are excited. Kasi sa isang taon may isang buwan kami where we will have a glimpse of the lives that we always wanted. Mind you, it was the best feeling na pwedeng ma experience ng OFWs. Yung umuwi to hug and talk to our family members, relatives, friends or even past co-workers.

However, for many years na umuuwi ako lagi. I always had these irritations and struggles na rin. I know this is not just a struggle na ako lang ang nakaka experience but also my fellow Overseas Filipino Workers. Eto yung mga salitang, “Uy pasalubong naman. Uy pakain ka naman. Uy libre naman dyan.” Ng walang kalatoy latoy. I know I will be hated for this post by some, but I need to make a stand. Your OFW friends miss you so much. Gusto nila kayo Makita, makasama, maka kwentuhan at mayakap. And it’s a sad thing na ang bungad lagi ay ang mga salitang eto when you go home.

Unang una, hindi sila ganun kayaman. For some maybe, pero lahat tayo we are all working. Trying to make ends meet. Trying to build our dreams. And it is always a struggle to pressure them. “Glad you’re back!”, “Welcome home, enjoy your vacation.” Earning a bigger salary equates something.

We are far away from our family and ang binabayaran sa amin is yung 24 hours naman na malayo sa pamilya. I experienced many times na may nagtatampo sa akin dahil di ko sila nameet or nabigyan ng oras. Minsan, our time is spent lagi sa mga pamilya namin na ang tagal naming di nakikita. It is not healthy na mag lagay lagi ng pressure sa mga kababayan nating OFWs. Alam ko naman, sa iba, na may extra money or extra time, they will make a way to meet yung mga relatives nila or mga kaibigan nila.

I really hope na sana buksan natin ang pangunawa natin.

I am writing this not to ignite hate but to at least encourage understanding.

Sana we will respect and love each other more.

Godbless everyone.

Ang kaibigan nyo,

OFWChamp
