OFWs can refund terminal fee even after 5 years – MIAA

“The terminal fee won’t expire and they can refund this from MIAA any day. For example, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who flew and wasn’t able to refund the terminal fee, he or she may do so once he or she gets back,” MIAA official said.

Passengers who wish to refund the terminal fee may go to the MIAA Collection Division during business hours. They must bring with them their ticket with record locator, and a valid ID.

Passengers with unused Cebu Pacific (CEB) and CebGo tickets from Feb. 1, 2015 to April 30, 2018 may refund their terminal fees from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the agency said on Friday.

CEB remitted more than PHP245 million to MIAA on Thursday for the unrefunded terminal fees (or passenger service charge) of the unused tickets or unflown passengers during the said travel period.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), MIAA Media Affairs Division head Jess Martinez said that MIAA does not require airlines to remit the unrefunded terminal fees.

“It’s the airline’s initiative, and CEB is the first carrier who did this,” he said.

In a statement, MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal thanked the CEB for its initiative, and expressed his hope that the other airlines would follow this move.

Martinez clarified that the amount will not go to MIAA’s fund. “This will be placed in an account, and passengers can refund their terminal fees any day they can, even after five years,” he said.

He noted that passengers must be able to show proof that they have unused CEB tickets for the said travel period.

According to MIAA, the remitted amount covers the unrefunded terminal fees of 212,100 international passengers and 892,800 domestic passengers of CEB.

The terminal fee for international flights was first integrated in the airline tickets in February 2015, while the integration in the domestic flights tickets started in August 2012.
