On Friday, Sept. 30, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provided livelihood assistance to at least 21 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Each beneficiary received P10,000 from the Balik Pinay, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) and the Livelihood Development Assistance Program, according to OWWA-NCR (LDAP).
OWWA has collaborated with the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) to promote migrant workers’ advancement in establishing livelihood ventures in the country.
Dindi Tan, Executive Director of NRCO, urged all returning OFWs to use the BPBH and LDAP platforms.
Tan stated that OFWs and their families were eligible for a P20,000 livelihood grant under the BPBH program.
“This program aims to help our returning OFWs. We encourage them to put up their businesses so that loved ones here in the Philippines should not only rely on their remittances. This is a good jumpstart for our Kababayan (fellow Filipinos) abroad. This is for all of you,” Tan said.
The BPBH is an NRCO training and employment project directed by the OWWA that aims to increase employment and economic opportunities for OFWs through livelihood and skills training, including the distribution of business starter kits.
Meanwhile, the LDAP is a livelihood assistance program that entitles OFWs to P10,000 business start-up kits.
Beneficiaries, according to Tan, must complete a small business management training and financial awareness seminar from the NRCO in order to receive the financial grant.
