The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region Welfare Office 2 in Cagayan Valley has distributed over P500,000 financial assistance to its members in Cagayan Province and Isabela.
Juvilyn Anns Gumabay, director of the OWWA Region 2, said the distribution of Welfare Assistance Program (WAP) and Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program was conducted in a two-day awarding of bereavement last Thursday, Aug. 25 and Aug. 26, Friday, respectively.
At least seven beneficiaries of WAP-Financial Assistance received P20,000 each while eight active and non-active OWWA members were recipients of medical/Illness assistance program amounting to P10,000 to P15,000 each.
In Isabela alone, 18 beneficiaries of the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) program under the funding of National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) have received P10,000 to P20,000.
The awarding of livelihood assistance was led by Family Welfare Officers Antonette Pagalilauan and Krishaly Agda from the OWWA-One-Stop-Shop Centers for OFWs (OWWA-OSSCO) office in Santiago City, Isabela.
The OWWA WAP program is a cash aid assistance extended to members, active or non-active, and of their families, who are not eligible under any of the existing agency’s social benefit programs and services.
OWWA officials, however, seek to extend the financial aid in the form of livelihood assistance to all returning OFWs who did not finish employment contracts abroad, mostly victims of labor malpractice and abuse.
