Philippine Embassy Sustains Campaign for Overseas Absentee Voter Registration

The Philippine Embassy is calling on all qualified Filipino citizens in Oman, who have not registered as Overseas Absentee Voter (OAV), to file their application before the deadline set on September 30 and be qualified to vote in the 2019 national elections.

Philippine Ambassador to Oman H.E. Narciso T. Castañeda said that under Republic Act 9189, all Filipino citizens abroad, who are not otherwise disqualified by law, at least 18 years old on May 13, 2019, may register as Overseas Absentee Voter, and vote during the 2019 national elections for Senators and Party-List Representatives.

Ambassador Castañeda reiterated that Republic Act 9189 or the Overseas Absentee Voting Act, was enacted specifically to provide Filipino nationals overseas, particularly the OFWs, the chance to participate in national elections and select the leaders of the country. “I call on our kababayans in Oman to register and make their votes count in 2019”, Ambassador Castañeda adds.

The registration facility for OAV at the Embassy is open during normal working hours from Sunday to Thursday, and during first Friday of the month. To register, applicants must personally appear for biometrics capturing and bring a photocopy of the applicant’s valid Philippine passport. Applicants are encouraged to come before the approaching deadline to avoid the long queue during the last day of registration.
