Submission of rental contracts and electricity bills is now mandatory for renewal of resident cards for expatriates. For citizens too, renewal of identity cards (IDs) and passports now requires submission of electricity bill and rental contract, if any.
According to the report published in Muscat Daily, an Royal Oman Police (ROP) official said, “Every citizen and resident must update his/her address in the civil register system on our portal by entering details of the electricity bill of the property he/she owns or rents.
“Expatriates must submit the rental contract or a letter from the property owner to prove that he/she lives in this building in addition to the electricity bill in order to renew their resident cards. “Omanis, in order to renew their IDs or passports, must submit their electricity bills and rental contracts. We urge people to cooperate to ensure the success of E-Census 2020.”
E-Census 2020
The E-Census 2020 aims to have up-to-date database by the end of this year. This database will include all information related to population, housing and establishments. This is the fourth census to be implemented by the sultanate since the Renaissance. The previous censuses were based on field surveys, the most recent being in 2010.
