Statement of Ministry on reopening of mosque and places of worship in Oman

A decision will be taken on the reopening of mosques in Oman for public from mid-November provided the COVID-19 situations improve, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has said.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs said: “The Ministry will take appropriate decision regarding the opening of mosques and places of worship in accordance with the guidelines and precautionary measures in mid-November 2020, and the opening of facilitates will be based on the local indicators issued by the Supreme Committee provided the numbers of infections are low.”

“The Ministry confirmed its keenness to reopen mosques and places of worship that were closed following the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) as per the decision of the Supreme Committee tasked with dealing with COVID-19. The committee, in its meeting on September 22, 2020, had expressed grave concern over the resurgence of the disease at the local and global levels and the rising numbers of infections and deaths all over the world,” the statement said

“In view of the prevalence of the pandemic and its effects on public health, and the resulting infections and deaths, the Islamic Law requires that precautions should be taken to preserve the soul and life of people,” the statement added.
