It has been more than six months when public transportation particularly the buses in Oman was suspended due to the coronavirus.
Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology issued a statement on Tuesday that Oman will resume its public transport services starting from September 27, 2020 based from the decision of the Supreme Committee on COVID-19
Public transportation within the Governorate of Muscat will start on 4th October, and in Salalah from 18th of October 2020.
Mwasalat will announce the return of services in Sohar soon, according to the ministry.
The ministry explained that the bus interior shall be sanitized before and after a trip, and has enforced testing temperatures of all passengers on intercity routes.
Passengers will have to abide to wearing a face mask at all time while commuting the buses. They will also need to keep a one-seat distance between each other. No passenger will be allowed to stand in a bus.
The following conditions must be followed to achieve safety for users and workers:
- Sterilizing of buses before the start of the trip and after its completion
- Measuring the temperature of passengers for trips between cities
- Wearing a mask while travelling on the bus
- Providing hand sanitizers inside the buses
- Practising social distancing between passengers by preventing two passengers from sitting in two adjacent seats.
- Preventing passengers from standing inside buses.
- Avoid touching the handles on the bus.
- Passengers must disclose any symptoms similar to those of coronavirus.”
